I will try to express myself in some mode of life or art as freely as I can and as wholly as I can, to work towards my future hopes and dreams.” As a child, I was very shy and unable to express my emotions, feelings and what was on my mind. Shyness is something that I had to deal with and is something that I still deal with at times. The one thing that helped me overcome this challenge is writing! Surprisingly, writing is a mode of art that has helped me build upon my own self-esteem and confidence, to express my values and beliefs to the world. Writing has also helped me to craft the perfect message and articulate what I am thinking and what I am feeling at any moment. Over the years, I have become more engaged with this hobby, especially through my blog posts, because it has given me a platform to express my inner voice and explore new hopes, dreams, possibilities and treasured ambitions for the future.

This reminds me of a quote from James Joyce:

“I am tomorrow, or some future day, what I establish today. I am today what I established yesterday or some previous day.”– James Joyce (1882-1941).

This quote reiterates that individuals should not waste their time, recalling a “distant, glorified past” because it will not prepare them for their future hopes and dreams. In order to work towards a better tomorrow, you must find a mode of life or art that will help you express yourself as freely and as wholly as you can. Joyce was able to break free from formal poetic styles of writing through his use of stream of consciousness, mythological allusions and dramatic interior monologue in his autobiographical novel A Portrait of the Artist, which emphasises the ability for writing to connect with one’s intellectual, spiritual and moral development.

Moreover, writing has guided me to articulate and interpret my own hopes, dreams and possibilities of becoming an English teacher. I want to teach students how to write, to help them express their own values and beliefs to the world, through language.  Teaching will help me to make a difference to future generations, by giving students enough confidence to expand on their knowledge towards wider issues and truths within society. As a future teacher, I also hope to be a role model that can cultivate young children to reach beyond what they know they are capable of in the world and encourage them to become the best versions of themselves. On a personal level, I also hope to live a healthy, happy and fulfilling life with my family and friends. Therefore, I will continue to try and express myself in writing, as freely as I can and as wholly as I can, to work towards my future hopes and dreams.

    Your blog is amazing! Wow! You expressed your ideas surrounding your childhood very well and linked it to your hopes for your future succinctly. Your inclusion of the quote from James Joyce really tied your work together and gave it a certain depth that many creative pieces lack. You brought your own voice to the quotes and made it fit within your blog. It was great to read that writing has been of great use to you, and your skill in writing shows very clearly!

    I love this blog post! I think it would have to be one of the most inspirational blogs i have read whilst reviewing. I love how you are true to yourself and your emotions in this blog, I think it allows all readers to gain a true sense of who you are. I really resonate with your future endeavours for your students as I feel the exact same way. I think if you pass this sense of wisdom onto your students, you will make an incredible teacher!

      I love how you also capture that little bit of James Joyce in there too. You managed to bring your blog back to the class work while also writing from you perspective and I find that kind of hard to achieve! So you have done a great job in doing that. I think to strengthen this blog maybe you could read it out loud to yourself to make sure all the sentences flow. As well as this, as you make reference to Joyce, maybe you could have added a little but more of that intrinsic voice that you had been using through the rest of your blog. otherwise I honestly think this is an awesome blog and you are going to make an awesome teacher in the future!
